Castleton: Introduction

Castleton

The CD has (approx) 15 pages about Castleton.
Castleton is strangely situated along a half mile length of Castleton Rigg, as it climbs up from the Esk valley in an exposed position, rather than the broad valley floor. In the nineteenth century, Castleton became the largest village along the Esk because of local quarrying and weaving industries. Today, Castleton's residents might travel to Teesside to work. It is well placed as a centre for touring, as it lies on both north/south and east/west routes.
