| Egton Bridge is a small village beside the River Esk, eight miles from Whitby, and
just a mile down a steep bank from Egton. It is famous and for holding a gooseberry fair and for
Father Nicholas Postgate, a Roman Catholic priest who was executed. There are two fine churches,
stepping stones and a pretty footbridge across the river near an old mill. Its architecture is a
mixture - note the 4 storey building, unusually tall for a village in this area. |
