| Great Ayton has grown into a large village, a popular dormitory for Teesside, but has managed to retain its character and charm. It has a daily influx of tourists on the 'Cook Trail'. The River Leven provides several picturesque views as it cuts the village in two. Easby Moor and the distinctive peak of Roseberry Topping are further attactions to bring visitors here. Mining on the nearby hills led to the initial growth of Great Ayton in the late 19th century. |
