| Hawnby is a small village in Upper Ryedale about 5 miles north of Helmsley, just west of Bilsdale near Newgate Bank. The main part of the village is situated on the lower slopes of Hawnby Hill, where the Hawnby Hotel is the focal point at a T junction in the road. There is a lower hamlet, about 400m away, beside the River Rye at the foot of the hill. This centres around the Post Office and the former Wesleyan Chapel. |
