Newtondale

The heavily wooded slopes of Newtondale form a gorge over 100 metres deep which carries Pickering Beck about ten miles from its northern limit almost to Pickering. This remote area is served by railway stations at Levisham and Newtondale Halt as the North York Moors Railway twists tortuously along the valley floor. There is no road access except on the Cropton Forest drive (visible to the left of the train) which leads down to Levisham Station.
