| Saltwick Nab is a low outcrop of hard rock protruding nearly a quarter of a mile into the sea beyond the line of cliffs. The cliff to which it is attached is also much harder than the typically soft sandstone layers that make up most of the nearby cliffs, so that erosion has left a convex shape at the bottom of the cliff face rather than the classic concave (see Huntcliff). The line of hard stone runs at about one third of the cliff height, matching that of the nab itself. |
