| Scaling Dam was built to supply the industrial needs of Teesside, but is of secondary importance as a reservoir since Kielder Dam was constructed. The dam itself is half a mile long, forming a lake about three quarters of a mile long and up to a quarter of a mile in width. It is largest lake in North Yorkshire and has an active yachting club and facilities for anglers. Walks around the lake are restricted to specific paths avoiding nature reserves. |
