| The horse shoe sweep from Sutton Bank to Roulston
Scar with its sheer slopes is perfect for creating the 'thermals'
which enable gliders to gain height and stay airborne for long
periods. The flat expanse on top makes an ideal airfield for take
off and landing. It is the home of the Yorkshire Gliding Club.
Walkers are asked to keep to the footpath and not stray onto the
field, as gliders can approach silently for landing, with little
warning. |
