Sutton Bank
Introduction 2: The Bank

Sutton Bank
The A170 climbs 160m (500ft) in three quarters of a mile, with gradients of 25%. Caravans are not allowed (an alternative route via Coxwold is signposted from Thirsk). Here the road seems to plummet down from Whitestone Cliff, with Lake Gormire and the Hambleton Hills in the background. For this spectacular view, you need to walk half a mile from the car park along the Cleveland Way path, to where it runs beside the Gliding Club airfield.
