Swainby

Swainby The CD has (approx) 10 pages about Swainby.
Swainby lies in the shadow of the Cleveland Hills, just off the A172, 5 miles from Stokesley and 3 miles from the A19 junction at Tontine, just inside the National Park. It had brief periods of importance as a mining centre for alum, jet and iron from nearby Scugdale during the late 19th century.  Now it is a popular residential village and also attracts summer visitors to the grassy banks of Scugdale Beck, which splits the village in two.
