Whitby

Whitby The CD has more than 50 pages about Whitby.
Whitby has a spectacular setting, with the harbour tucked between cliff slopes and the abbey prominent on the cliff top. Its importance has fluctuated from the time that Hilda built the first abbey. The sea and fishing have predominated, with the James Cook connection and the whaling exploits of William Scoresby. The town was a successful Victorian resort, and now attracts thousands of day trippers throughout the year.
